K-Dam

Light-curing composite resin gingival barrier

K-Dam by Kiyomi Dental is a light-curing composite resin gingival barrier intended exclusively for professional use in dental clinics. It is designed to protect oral soft tissues, particularly the marginal/free gingiva and adjacent mucosa, during tooth whitening procedures requiring isolation from oxidising agents, as well as for sealing or stabilising the barrier during dental isolation procedures using clamps and K-Rubber dam rubber dams by Kiyomi Dental.

Its formulation allows direct application and precise adaptation and sealing along the gingival contour. It is applied in a viscous state to the area requiring protection and, after light curing, forms a solid, rigid and resistant layer that acts as an impermeable physical barrier, preventing the whitening agent from coming into contact with soft tissues.

K-Dam is formulated with methyl methacrylate as the base monomer, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as the cross-linking agent and carbomer as the thickening agent to improve viscosity. It is blue in colour, has a specific gravity of 1.122 and exhibits low viscosity without flowing, allowing controlled application.

The material is light-cured using a dental LED curing light within the 400–500 nm wavelength range for 10–20 seconds per area, depending on the curing light specifications. Once cured, it is insoluble in water and can be easily removed at the end of the procedure, preferably in a single piece or in large fragments.

INDICATED FOR

Indicated for protecting the marginal/free gingiva, interdental papillae and exposed oral mucosa during professional tooth whitening procedures by providing isolation from oxidising agents such as hydrogen peroxide at concentrations ≥6% or equivalent concentrations of carbamide peroxide. It provides localised protection against chemical irritation, chemical burns and inadvertent exposure to the active agent, including during LED- or laser-activated whitening procedures and in cases requiring protection in hard-to-reach interproximal areas, exposed papillae or compromised gingival anatomy. It is also indicated for stabilising auxiliary components, such as clamps, and for sealing and blocking moisture during dental isolation procedures.

CLINICAL BENEFITS

CLINICAL BENEFITS

K-Dam by Kiyomi Dental is designed as a temporary gingival isolation solution for professional tooth whitening procedures. Its controlled application, rapid light curing and easy removal help protect soft tissues and improve the safety and control of clinical treatment.

Effective soft tissue protection

Once light-cured, K-Dam creates a physical barrier that prevents direct contact between the whitening agent and the gums and oral mucosa.

Precise and controlled application

Its viscous, non-flowing consistency facilitates stable adaptation to the gingival contour and provides continuous coverage of areas susceptible to exposure.

Gingival sealing during tooth whitening

The rigid, stable barrier helps isolate at-risk areas from oxidising agents used in professional procedures.

Rapid light curing

It can be cured using an LED curing light in 10–20 seconds per area, allowing visual confirmation that the barrier is rigid, stable and continuous.
